Abawashded Dagucawa, Good Day My Relatives
It is with humility and respect that I announce my candidacy for Council in the upcoming Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation 2026 Election.
Making the decision to be a candidate is the result of thoughtful consideration and taking the necessary time to contemplate the role and responsibilities. In keeping with protocols, I attended ceremony, spoke to elders, connected with members, and talked with my family.
The message from the people is very clear. You want accountability from leaders, you want community safety and well-being, and you want members engaged in planning. Your concerns, opinions, and questions are important to me. I am committed to being a voice for our people and Nation.
I will lead with humility and respect for the members and in keeping with traditional values.
Over the next few weeks, it is my intent to meet and visit with members. I can be reached directly at 587.594.7321, email info@ginapotts.ca or visit this website for more information about my candidacy.
Best wishes to all candidates in the upcoming election, and I look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail.
Thank you all for your encouragement, guidance, and support, Ishnish.
PLATFORM
Governance
Schedule B of the Election Regulations are clear on the duties of the Chief and Council. We need these principles reinstated and followed. This is our law and ratified by the people.
We need Nation laws, laws that reflect who we are as Isga Nakota people. Laws for our governance, community living, child and family well-being, justice, lands, and economic development.
The concept of "governance" is not new. "Governance" means: the process of decision-making and the process by which decisions are implemented (or not implemented).
Good governance has 8 major characteristics. It is participatory, consensus oriented, accountable, transparent, responsive, effective, and efficient, equitable, inclusive and follows the rule of law.
Finally, our people need a voice and representation on issues affecting our inherent and treaty rights. This begins from within our Nation, and with affiliated organizations like the Tribal Council and the Confederacy. The Crown in Right of Canada and Alberta have progressive plans to erode our rights and enact legislation. We need collective action to protect our rights with the counsel of the elders and informing our people.
Nation Safety
Our Nation has been in a crisis in the past few years, there is an increase of crime within the community. Our people deserve to live in peace and order. We need policing, patrolling and community safety strategies to address the immediate issues and to protect the people and our property.
Nation Well-Being
Our people have been consistently calling for a plan of action to address Nation well-being. Our members need accessible programs and services for mental health, addictions, and inter-generational trauma. We will create a culturally appropriate plan together.
Equality
We are all equal members of our Nation, residency or family relation shouldn’t be an issue to acquire support from the Nation. Our elders and children are our most vulnerable members, and we must implement measures to protect and enhance their quality of life. We need to plan as a community to ensure that the needs of the people are assessed and addressed.
Your Voice, Your Concerns, Your Vision
As we begin the campaign, I look forward to sharing your voice, your concerns, and your vision.
